When I began writing my book and deciding which pictures I wanted to include, I knew this picture was one of them. I was conflicted about including it because I think SWAN’s life lesson is more of a reminder than a lesson. Nonetheless, I love this picture and I wanted to share my art and God’s teachings with the world so, SWAN made the cut.
In the beginning of my book, I discuss the first time I was mesmerized by the beauty of a majestic animal. This swan took me back to that moment. Like the animal mentioned in my book, this swan was overwhelmingly beautiful. Being from Hyde County, I’m used to seeing large, beautiful animals. Bears, deer, wolves, coyotes, and the long birds in New Holland I don’t know the name of. I’ve never wanted to be close to them though because, well, they’d probably kill me, but I love admiring them.
I’ve never been this close to a swan. Man, talk about beautiful. I’ll admit, I was afraid when she began walking towards Pops and me, but my fascination with her beauty outweighed my fear of her presence. God’s creations never cease to amaze me. Even though the swan had dirt on her from the muddy water, she was so brightly white; it was an amazing view. As I bonded with this swan, I imagined the days to come where I’m getting paid to photograph animals in their natural environments. I'm patiently anticipating those days, but I also kinda wish they were already here. But I gotta remember, I'm operating on God's time, not my own.
So, when I noticed this beauty was available for a photoshoot, I knew I had to capture her. What I didn’t know, though, is that she would be more comfortable with me than I was with her. Lol, she was such a natural as she posed for me. SWAN is a simple life lesson AND reminder that, simply put, animals are beautiful creatures.

· I believe all animals are beautifully created the way God intended them to look, so I don’t call animals ugly or weird looking; I just admire them for who they are.
